Speaker: Steven Silverstein, Esq., Thomson Reuters

Description: This session provides tips and techniques on how to search ethical and professional responsibility issues using Westlaw. Participants will be introduced to content sources available on Westlaw such as  ABA Ethics Opinions, the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, state rules governing the practice of law, as well as case law and selected treatises on Ethics and Professional Responsibility. This course provides a good refresher on using Westlaw, being mindful of Model Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.1, which states, “A lawyer shall provide competent representation to a client. Competent representation requires the legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation reasonably necessary for the representation.” The ABA Comments to Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule 20:1.1 on Competence recognizing that “technology is an integral part of contemporary law practice” will also be reviewed.
